This blog post is a part of the 'Behind the Scenes of my Business' blog tag started by April of Blacksburg Belle. She began this experiment to help us bloggers connect more and get to know each other better. My blog isn’t my business but Erika tagged me so here I go! I have tweaked the questions a little, but if you’d like to participate or want more info, check out this post here. If you do participate in the tag, comment below with your link, so I can read yours!
What’s your two to three sentence bio?
I’m an editor and project manager, with a passion for words. I started Where the Light Plays only a couple of months ago to provide a creative channel for myself outside of work and to help women deal with the overwhelm of perfectionism presented online.
What’s your favourite part of your blog?
Writing! I freelanced as a writer up until about five years ago and had forgotten how much I enjoy it.
What’s your least favourite part of your blog?
It’s kind of a love–hate relationship – it’s tinkering with the CSS/design and trying to make my blog pretty. I’m in the early stages but it can sometimes take hours to complete the simplest tweak . On the flip side, I also enjoy challenging myself with these new skills.
What are the top three tools you use the most in your work?
My brain (!), Squarespace, and my iPhone.
What business goal would you love to reach before the end of the year?
I have a ‘number of weekly readers’ goal that I’d love to meet.
Who are three creatives that inspire you?
Jess Lively – I’m always raving about her podcast and I love her take on living from your intuition.
Sage Grayson – a fabulous coach and writer (and ex-editor!) whose posts give me a push when I need motivation.
Sarah Jenks – creator of Live More, Weigh Less, I always find Sarah’s posts stand out in the sea of blog posts I read.
What do you listen to (if anything) while you work?
Usually my husband watching The Colbert Report in the background. Otherwise Daft Punk is my music of choice for zoning out when reading and writing.
Morning person or night owl?
I will tentatively say morning person. I’ve gotten better over recent years. I would prefer to be a night owl but I’m too sensible for that these days!
How many employees do you have and what are the main things they do for you?
Just me so far.
What’s your favourite social media platform?
Instagram. Voyeuristic peeks and lots of inspiration if you look in the right places. Although I recently got invited to Ello so I’ll keep you posted.
What’s your least favourite social media platform?
What works best when it comes to marketing your blog?
Sharing with friends. It was daunting at first but they have been so supportive and are my regular readers. Twitter has also been a surprise marketing winner for me.
What’s one thing about your blog that your readers probably don’t know?
It’s the third one I’ve started.
If your business were a fashion accessory, what would it be?
Since the blog is all about ease, I could say a muu muu, but instead I’ll say a fine-looking, super soft leather tote, able to carry all you need.
What’s your top tip for someone who wants to do something similar to you?
Start your blog now! I had read this a million times from other bloggers, but it’s true. I am enjoying myself so much, I wonder why I waited.
I’m tagging these people to answer these questions in a post on their blogs:
1. Damsel in Dior – one of my fave bloggers, Jacey is super successful and I always love hearing behind the scenes snippets from her.
2. Bethan @ Ply – I devour her renovation posts and would love to hear more about her blogging process.
3. You. Tag, you’re it! Post your link below.
