Ideas for your Evening Routine

Who doesn’t love a peek inside other people’s routines?

I’ve had a few emails recently asking me what my evening routine is, and I realised the last one I posted was pre kids!

My old post was a fun trip down memory lane, and although you might expect a ‘woe is me’ post from me now about how I don’t have as much time anymore, I’m actually even MORE intentional at night now that my time is limited.

After getting V to sleep (usually between 7.30 and 8.30), I have my dinner (usually prepared a little earlier) and settle in to coach and / or watch TV if I’m not with a client that evening.

I like to be in bed by 10.30 so that usually leaves around an hour for my nighttime routine.

I’ve never loved a strict evening routine because I feel like much of the rest of my day is structured – my morning routine, my working day, V’s evening routine etc.

So what I’ve settled on is creating a list of ideas of things I can draw on that feel good on that particular night.

But I always aim to do two things to set me up for the next day:

  1. Plan out the next day. This helps me sleep better and wake up less grumpy (I’m not wondering what I have to do that day or calculating when I have to leave the house etc). I use Holly Haynes’ planner to plan my day.

  2. I do a little ritual right before bed to make my morning easier and make me feel taken care of. I feed Pickles, our cat, tidy the main living area quickly and set my coffee up so I just have to hit the go button the next morning.

Here’s a longer list of ideas for your evenings – take what you’re interested in and add your own!

  • A long shower

  • ThinkUp affirmations

  • Yoga

  • A bath 🛀

  • Tapping with Gala Darling or Nick Ortner

  • Pilates

  • Calm drink

  • Hot tea

  • Meditation 🧘‍♀️

  • Before bed self coaching (I ask the question ‘how do I want to feel tomorrow?’)

Let me know in the comments if you have questions about any of the ideas!

An evening ritual should set you up for the next day and make you feel taken care of and wound down before bed.

PS: If you’re struggling to find time at night (yup, I only have about an hour), you can grab my free time tracker here to find extra time or ditch the things you’re not enjoying doing.
