Are You Carrying The Mental Load At Work Too?

It’s that time of year – or at least mid-November – when all those stats start turning up about how women should technically stop working around now because we’ve already done a full year’s worth of labour compared to men.

I always kind of cringe when I see it… mostly because it feels 100% true.
And something I’ve been talking to so many women about last week is this:

The invisible mental load we carry at work.

Even in the workplace, we’re the ones smoothing over meeting tension.

Organising the cake.

Remembering the farewell lunch.

Being asked, “Hey, what are we doing for John's farewell?” while the men simply… show up.

And it’s not just corporate women.

I coached one of my self-employed clients this week who was completely overwhelmed — trying to raise four kids and run her business during nap time, and somehow create focus time instead of constantly reacting to DMs, orders and everything else.

Different workplace, same story:

women carrying too much, quietly, every day.

So if you’re feeling a bit tired as we slide into the end of the year… it makes complete sense.

What I’ve been working on with clients — whether they have a team or they’re doing it all on their own — is learning how to plan their week in a way that actually supports them.

That might look like:

✨ Building in reactive time on purpose

✨ Protecting real focus time so things actually get done

✨ Prioritising the basics – showering, breakfast, breathing lol – before opening Slack, email or WhatsApp

✨ Designing a routine that feels good instead of frantic

Because we want to enjoy this time of year… not feel like we’re stuck in Groundhog Day with a touch of tinsel.

If this struck a chord, I have one more 1:1 coaching spot open before the end of the year.

We can talk through what’s going on for you and map out a plan that feels sustainable.

My 1:1 container runs for 12 weeks – which takes you to the end of February.

Meaning you’d be two months into 2026 already feeling sorted – and finally running your days in a way that supports you.

See if 1:1 Is Right For You
