Your Primitive Brain Isn't the Villain (But It Might Be Running Your Life)
I want to clear something up this week.
I talk a lot about your primitive brain keeping you stuck, making you panic at work, pouring that glass of wine you said you weren't going to pour — and I don't want you walking away thinking it's a terrible thing that needs to be ignored.
It isn't.
Our primitive brains have kept us safe for thousands of years. It is, genuinely, fabulous at its job.
But its job is to keep you safe from threat. And in 2026, threat looks like falling behind at work, falling short as a mum and somehow still not doing enough in either role no matter what you do.
So it drives you really hard.
Never logging off properly. Responding to messages within 45 seconds. Getting up early, staying at work late, being fun mum even when you're exhausted on the inside.
It chants:
"You're fat, go and work out."
"You're lazy, stay late. People will judge you if you don't respond immediately."
"Be fun mum. Enjoy it. Even though you're crying on the inside."
There's nothing wrong with your primitive brain.
But if it's running your whole life — if you're achieving everything and feeling like absolute crap about it — that's something we can fix.
I've worked with so many women who are incredibly high performing but quietly heading towards burnout because their inner critic is driving every single thing they do. We work together to shift that inner voice into something kind, compassionate and actually on your side.
And the good news is, your output won't actually drop. You'll still do all the things.
But you'll feel amazing about it. You'll be on your own side. You'll feel like you've chosen this life and you actually enjoy it.
That is what happens when your prefrontal cortex runs the show instead. It's kinder. It's clearer. And it takes care of you at the same time as everything else.
Your primitive brain still has a job. We just don't let it drive you into the ground anymore.
If your primitive brain has been driving your life for years and you're exhausted from achieving everything while feeling like crap about it, that's something we can fix. Book a free call here and let's talk.
